It says where you are before anyone knocks.
Ajar is an e-paper sign for an office door. You change it from your iPhone, from a widget, from Control Center, or by tapping the phone on the sign.
At lunch

since 12:47
Eight words
The sign shows one of them, large. Busy and In a meeting turn the panel to ink so they read as "not now" from down the corridor.
- In office
- Busy
- In a meeting
- At lunch
- Out
- Gone for the day
- On vacation
- Custom
No network
The sign has no Wi-Fi and no account. Your phone talks to it over Bluetooth, and only a phone that has paired with it can change it. Between changes the sign sleeps on a battery that lasts years, not days. Nothing about you leaves the sign or your phone.
Three ways it changes
- Tap. Hold your iPhone on the sign's tap mark on the way out and it flips from In office to the status you chose for leaving. Tap again on the way in and it flips back.
- Ask. A widget, a Control Center button, a Siri phrase, or the app itself. "Set my door to lunch."
- Badge. A small beacon in your badge holder lets the sign notice when you are around and set In office and Out on its own.
Did you tap a sign to get here?
Then the sign on that door belongs to someone who uses Ajar. The sign shows their status on the door; it did not send anything about them, or about you, to your phone. If the owner has turned on the tap link, their current status opens instead of this page.
Where it stands
Ajar is being built and tested on one door. There is nothing to buy yet. Questions go to the support page.
